The Vice President, Competitive Intelligence Manager is responsible for tracking the activities of the overall market, specific competitors and providing activity updates, as well as threat and opportunity assessments. This individual supports the development of new plans, programs, or products through findings and fact based interpretations of competitive and market intelligence. The focus of this role will be to support the business in understanding the changing payments landscape, key industry verticals, and innovations in the competitive landscape.

This is a manager position responsible for coordinating, maintaining, leading, and managing projects and processes and is responsible for managing budget, vendor relationships, and internal partnerships.

Market Intelligence

  • Identify and communicate market trends, competitive forces, competitor strategies

  • Translate findings into recommendations that inform strategic and tactical business decisions

  • Synthesize multiple sources of secondary research to provide a evidence-based point of view on go-forward strategies

  • Proactively share out intelligence while appropriately prioritizing and managing ad hoc requests

  • Develop and maintain subject matter expertise in Chase’s merchant products & competitors

Research and Analysis

  • Promote and apply competitive intelligence analytical methodologies to address industry issues; proactively identify issues of concern and disseminate findings to appropriate parties

  • Perform competitive analysis to unstructured problems; may collaborate with cross-functional teams to identify and define the underlying business issue; facilitate the development, design, analysis and execution of the research and analysis

Vendor Management

  • The manager needs to independently manage/perform multiple complex work assignments.

  • A critical piece of this role will be the ability of the manager to successfully leverage sources and external consultants/analysts to develop work product; the ability to communicate needs, expectations, and feedback should be demonstrated

  • The manager will be responsible for yearly contract negotiations and management and budget management for Merchant Services Competitive Intelligence

Qualifications

Job Qualifications

  • Education: Bachelor’s degree required, MBA or advanced degree preferred

  • Experience: 6 or more years of experience with advanced background in research and analysis and competitive analysis/intelligence

  • Must have understanding of the payments landscape; the ideal candidate will have experience at a Payments provider / merchant acquirer

  • The selected candidate must be a collaborative consultant to internal and external partners including executive management and marketing and product business partners, possessing both executive presence and confidence.

  • The candidate should be able to quickly come up to speed and have a comfort being the ‘face’ of the CI team to internal and external partners

  • Strong knowledge of synthesis and storytelling as it relates to key competitive insights

  • Significant experience managing vendors to deliver concise, thoughtful work product

  • Excellent communication skills; both oral and written

  • Ability to manage multiple projects with tight deadlines effectively

  • Effective presentation skills, including the ability to tailor communications to different audiences

  • Must be highly organized, detail oriented, and manage time effectively.
