Under the direction of the Wildfire Section Manager, this position is the administrative support for the Northeast Regions negligent fire cost recovery program and yearly inter-agency cost reimbursements for the fire related expenditures. The position plays an important role by supporting the agency's Vision, Mission and Guiding Principles outlined in the Strategic Plan by researching and supplying financial data to managers for making decisions that will result in the best possible outcome for the State of Washington. Performs a variety of administrative, Wildfire and fiscal support functions that requires coordination with managers, professional staff and cooperating partners. Qualifications


  • High School or GED and at least one year equivalent clerical or fiscal experience.
  • Knowledge of and ability to explain the Forest Fire Protection Laws/Rules – i.e., Violations, Silvicultural Burning Permits, Forest Closures/Suspensions, Fire Protection Regulations, Hazard Abatement.
  • Knowledge of and ability to explain the agency's current fire, cost recovery and fiscal policies and procedures.
  • Organizational and time management skills to meet competing deadlines. Adept at multitasking several projects and adjusting quickly to new priorities and managing conflicting priorities.
  • Strong computer skills in Microsoft Word, Excel and Access and the ability to learn and maintain knowledge of position specific computer applications identified in the Essential Functions, typing speed of 40 wpm.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills (active listening and questioning).
  • Mathematical Reasoning – accurately chooses from and utilizes a variety of mathematical and/or statistical techniques to formulate conclusions or solve practical problems.
  • Ability to present ideas effectively to diverse individuals and groups.
  • Ability to provide superior customer service through accuracy, availability, partnerships and education.
  • Recordkeeping – consistently and accurately documents information or updates records so that they reflect the most current information and form a complete and understandable account of changes, decisions, activity and work performed.
  • Fiscal Accountability – responsibly and accurately processes financial transactions and/or commits fiscal resources. Consistently follows applicable fiscal guidelines, regulations, principles and standards.
  • Excellent eye for details, good proofreading skills and the ability to quickly learn and interpret complex subject matters.


  • A Bachelor's Degree, which includes at least 18 quarter or 12 semester hours of accounting, auditing or budgeting.
  • Three years of clerical experience with at least one year at a lead or supervisor level.
  • Fiscal experience processing accounts payable, accounts receivable, auditing, budgeting and/or cost accounting may substitute year for year for the education.


  • Work Setting: This position's Assigned Duty Station is the NE Region Office (95%). Work environment consists of an office setting. Must be able to pick up and carry appropriate records/records boxes (25 lbs.) as needed to conduct assigned tasks.
  • Schedule Variations: Position is overtime-eligible; 40 hour work week; Monday – Friday; 8:00 AM to 4:30 PM; Incumbent may work overtime hours with monetary compensation throughout the year.
  • Travel Requirements: Position may require travel time for training or meetings. This position does not require driving as an essential function. However, employees who drive for state business, whether in a state or privately-owned vehicle, are required to possess a valid license as defined in policy PO02-006 and abide by all other driver responsibility requirements.
  • Equipment Used: Office procedures require use of standard office furniture and equipment (desks, chairs, files, cabinets, computers, telephones, fax machines, copiers, etc.)
  • Hazardous Materials: While in an office setting position does not come in contact with any hazardous chemicals other than standard surface cleaners and adhesives.
  • Customers: Position requires regular contact with external vendors (such as: contractor vendors, business owners, other government representatives, etc.) and internal employees. Position has occasional contact with angry or distraught customers. This position does not require driving as an essential function. However, employees who drive for state business, whether in a state or privately-owned vehicle, are required to possess a valid license as defined in policy PO02-006 and abide by all other driver responsibility requirements.
