This position provides engineering, project management and logistical support and services to the USASMDC/ARSTRAT G6, and 1st Space Brigade in support of the Mobile Integrated Ground Suite and Emergency Backup Communication System. The successful candidate works with a multi-disciplined team applying sound systems engineering and project management practices to provide life-cycle management in support of cutting-edge, mission-critical, mobile, U.S. DoD satellite communications (SATCOM) systems. Contributes to all phases of system development and support including: concept definition, requirements decomposition, trade studies, architecture, interface specification, integration, testing, operations, troubleshooting, authoring technical documents and technical support. Successful candidates will have a solid understanding of U.S. Army and Air Force tactical satellite communications systems, relevant experience in successfully leading cross-discipline engineering teams, and experience managing customer mission objectives and needs.
Major job activities include:
Support program, project, and system engineering requirements by performing the full range of engineering activities either individually or as a member of an Integrated Product Team.
Contribute to all phases of system development and support including: concept definition, requirements decomposition, trade studies, architecture, interface specification, integration, testing, operations, troubleshooting, system updates, authoring technical documents and technical support.
Provide the technical expertise to determine performance measures, specify technical budgets, perform system trades, document and control interfaces, and confidently answer customer questions and concerns in these areas.
Investigate reported anomalies and failures. Develop approaches and plans to correct shortcomings or improve system capabilities. Present associated analysis and recommendations in written reports and presentations.
Identify and troubleshoot system problems. Conduct tests using a wide range of instruments and test equipment. Analyze results to restore systems or improve performance. Document and report results.
Provide technical advice, assistance, and engineering services to military SATCOM operators and management, via telephonic support and/or on-site engineering support. Investigate user and technician questions or problems, and provide technical advice and assistance to resolve system issues. This support includes the following sub-systems: communications, networking, timing, control, signal distribution, signal processing, antenna, power, trucks, trailers, environmental control, system software, and support equipment.
Support Engineering Change Proposals (ECPs) for system upgrades or equipment refreshes. Participate in proposal development activities, including technical content, and cost/schedule estimates.
Track project milestones and deliverables identify and quantify any variance, perform corrective actions and communicate with stakeholders.
Execute logistical shipment requests according to company procedures, assure compliance with Federal regulations and company policies.
Deploy, as necessary, to provide engineering support to customers at their field locations.
Assist in workplace and personnel safety by identifying and mitigating risks; intervene to prevent mishaps.
Complete assignments on-time and on-budget, and clearly communicate interim status and any changes or concerns.
To be successful in this position, candidates must possess both breadth and depth of SATCOM terminal knowledge and engineering experience. The candidate must be proficient in SATCOM system planning, design, operations, troubleshooting, analysis, and support; must be reliable; and must demonstrate a high standard of personal integrity. This position requires the candidate to work closely with military team members in austere locations and space limited environments. The candidate must be comfortable working in deployed locations where resources may be limited and a great deal of ingenuity is required.
Four years technical training at an accredited school (8 years of related experience can be substituted for 2 years of technical training) or equivalent military training is required. A Bachelor of Science degree in engineering, networking or Project Management is required.
Excellent written and oral communication skills are necessary.
Ability to travel domestically and internationally required- Up to 20%
Position requires a demonstrated self-starter, efficient in achieving goals and proactive in pursuing subsequent tasks. Must be motivated and able to identify and develop practical solutions to complex problems. Must be comfortable working in a dynamic, fast paced, team oriented environment. Job requires the ability to negotiate and successfully resolve conflicts (technical and interpersonal).
Experience with 1st Space Brigade SATCOM support and mobile or tactical SATCOM experience is highly preferred.
PMP Certification is desired.
U.S. Citizenship and a current Final Top Secret/SSBI Clearance with SCI eligibility is required. Must possess active SCI clearance with current investigation (within last 4.5 years) and be able to maintain a Top Secret Clearance.
