Job Description

We are looking for a motivated, self-starter who can be a key contributor for our Systems Engineering team with Oracle Enterprise Linux and VMware technologies. Our core financial and manufacturing ERP systems run on these platforms you will support. In the role you will be expected to provide system engineering support and on-call duties, lead technical projects, train and mentor others, and work with outside vendors.


  • Document design specifications, installation instructions, and other system-relatedinformation.

  • Verify stability, interoperability, portability, security, and scalability ofsystem architecture.

  • Collaborate with engineers and software developers to select appropriate designsolutions and ensure the compatibility of system components.

  • Provide technical guidance and support for the development or troubleshooting ofsystems.

  • Identify system data, hardware, and software components required to meet userneeds.

  • Provide guidelines for implementing secure systems to installation teams.

  • Monitor system operation to detect potential problems.

  • Meet schedules and goals for assigned tasks.

  • Tracks project tasks against plan and meets project milestones.

  • Assist other systems technicians with project management activities and provides status to management on assigned tasks as needed; participates in status meetings with systemsengineering team.

  • Support technology management tools for monitoring, alerting and problem investigation.

  • Provides third-level support to end-users; provides support status updates to end users according to the IT support policy.

  • Coordinates with network and application teams when troubleshooting problems that cross technology disciplines.

  • Other duties as assigned.



  • Required experience in the following areas:

  • Red Hat or Oracle Enterprise Linux

  • VMware vSphere and vCenter

  • SAN and Storage Configuration

  • Backup and Recovery

  • Preferred experience in the following areas:

  • Windows Server and Active Directory

  • SolarWinds NPM or similar monitoring software

  • HP BladeSystem or comparable hardware


  • EMC Avamar

  • Storage Replication

  • Netscaler, F5 or other load-balancerconfiguration

  • Understanding of networking concepts, firewalls, troubleshooting, packet captures, etc.

  • Oracle Linux System Administrator, RHCSA or other Linux certification

  • Excellent written, verbal and interpersonal communication skills

  • Prior experience selling, installing, and/or architecting data management solutions (backup and recovery, datamigration, replication, compliance, SRM, etc.)

  • Demonstrated attention to detail when working with highly-visible live production servers

  • Ability to understand requirements, develop solutions, and drive execution to meetestablished dates and milestones

  • Strong organization, documentation, time management, and communications skillswith the ability to manage several active projects at a time


A Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or related field, and minimum 6 years of related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience is required for this position.


Provide off-hours support on an as-needed basis
