Tribune Company Sr. Application Engineer in Chicago, Illinois

The position is responsible for designing, developing, coding and testing applications for enterprise and digital requirements. Ths position is skilled in Agile development methodologies, use case analysis, ETL, software engineering with object-oriented design/programming and database programming. The primary platform is Microsoft’s .NET.

  • Works with project manager and end-users to analyze, design, code, test and document new applications that provide the end-user with information to enhance the operations of the business. Specific skills include ability to develop system/integration specifications, and object-oriented design and coding.

  • Consults with project manager, technical lead, and users to implement enhancements to existing applications to satisfy changing business requirements.

  • Using effective problem-solving techniques, supports and recovers systems due to production problems to minimize the impact to the department or business.

  • Responsible for ensuring the quality and application security of program code. This includes the design and development of efficient, effective, and secure object oriented applications that adhere to department standards.

  • Works with project manager, and technical lead to estimate time requirements for project assignments. Organizes tasks and personal time to complete multiple, diverse assignments using Agile methods for project completion. Coordinates efforts with other IT personnel to ensure effective systems implementation.

  • Maintain knowledge of business applications through regular communications with the end-users to provide support.

  • Maintain proficiency in information technology and tools to enhance productivity and quality of systems development.

  • Participate in IT quality improvement teams to develop departmental procedures and standards.

  • 6+ years experience in software design and development.

  • Strong technical knowledge of .NET (C#), HTML5/Javascript, and SQL Server.

  • Good verbal and written communication skills required for interaction with the business-users.

  • Strong problem-solving skills required for technical issue resolution.

  • Organized, detail-oriented and structured work habits.

  • Strong personal time management to coordinate several tasks simultaneously.

  • Team-oriented, ability to build relationships effectively.

  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.

  • Bachelor’s degree (Information Systems or Computer Science).

  • Microsoft Certified Professional.
