The Commodity Buyer is responsible for managing a global supply chain for assigned commodities. This position will help develop and execute a strategic commodity plan to ensure optimal quality, delivery, cost, packaging, and payment terms.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities: * Develop and manage a commodity strategy that delivers optimal total cost position – price, packaging, quality, inventory, and freight. * Drives plant supply chain performance and negotiate required agreements (Vendor Managed Inventory (VMI), Purchasing Liability (PLA), and Quality Agreement). * Supports planners during supply chain disruptions through tactical expedites as needed. * Utilize Problems Solving Process (PSP), Danaher Materials Systems (DMS), as well as other Danaher Business System tools to minimize supply chain disruptions and increase inventory turns * Work closely with quality to reduce internal and external PPM, CAPAs, and out of box failures. Support quality through management of supplier quality rating programs, CAPA /SCAR resolution, and supplier audits. * Implement the materials portion of Engineering Change Orders (ECOs) and Production Part Approval Process (PPAP) submissions for all purchased parts within assigned commodities. * Drive cost reduction through purchasing tools to include, reverse auction, RFP/RFQ, VAVE, negotiation, YOY contracting, payment terms, and hedging strategies. * Work closely with R&D in the development and implementation of Accelerated Product Development (APD) and VAVE projects * Provide support of Lean Manufacturing and continuous improvement initiatives. * Other duties, reporting, special assignments or projects as needed and assigned.


The Commodity Buyer must have strong communication and interpersonal skills, with an ability to influence peers, supervisors, other operations leaders, and vendors. This person must be strategic thinker as this position is one of the key contributors to the business’ long term supply chain strategy.

Additionally, this role requires strong project management skills with ability to trouble shoot and solve problems independently with limited direction from supervisor. The Commodity Buyer must have good business acumen and be adaptable to changing environment.

Education and/or Experience: * BS Degree in Business, Engineering, or related field * 2-5 years of experience a Procurement, Commodity Buying or Buyer/Planner role * Knowledge of JIT Manufacturing environment preferred Relationships: * Personal Trait Profile * Self Sufficient * Detail oriented * Motivated * Goal Oriented
