Department Description

The TEACCH Autism Program is a University-based system of community regional centers that offers a set of core services along with unique demonstration programs meeting the clinical, training, and research needs of individuals with ASD, their families, and professionals across the state of North Carolina. TEACCH is a model for other programs around the world. TEACCH provides clinical services such as diagnostic evaluations, parent training and parent support groups, social play and recreation groups, individual counseling for higher-functioning clients, and supported employment. In addition, TEACCH conducts training nationally and internationally and provides consultation for teachers, residential care providers, and other professionals from a variety of disciplines. Research activities include psychological, educational, and biomedical studies. The administrative headquarters of the TEACCH program (A&R;) are in Chapel Hill, North Carolina, and there are seven regional outpatient clinics located in Asheville, Chapel Hill, Charlotte, Fayetteville, Greensboro, Greenville and Wilmington. Also a part of TEACCH is the Carolina Living and Learning Center, a residential/vocational training facility for adults with ASD as well as our Supported Employment Program. Each of the regional centers is responsible for Diagnostic Evaluations, Treatment and Family Support Services, Training of Students and Professionals, and Autism Consultation Services to other agencies. TEACCH Centers are also responsible for collaborating with other autism professionals on a national research data registry that maintains information for researchers on individuals with autism spectrum disorders and their families.

Position Description

This position is assigned to the Charlotte TEACCH Center which serves 11 NC counties. The primary purpose of this position is to provide clinical and general administrative support for the Center Director and Autism Specialists. Duties include but are not limited to:

Manage Front Desk Activities for clients (patients) coming into to the clinic. Front Desk Activities include the role of Clinical Intake Coordinator (responsible for referral process) as well as the specific system activities required for registering, scheduling clients and insurance billing.

Provide General Office Support for Director and Clinical Staff which includes answering phones, correspondence, scheduling meetings, mail, supplies and other activities as requested by Center Director.

Coordinate Training and Community Activities conducted by the Center. This includes organizing/managing logistics for workshops and other meetings, preparing copies/notebooks and other training materials as needed and providing onsite support during workshops.

Create/Update records as need for the TEACCH research registry and database and provide reporting as needed to the Center Director.

Minimum Education and Experience Requirements

High school diploma or equivalency and one year of related office experience; or equivalent combination of training and experience.

Preferred Qualifications

A bachelor’s degree in health science, business, communications or a related field is preferred. Experience interacting with individuals and families with developmental disabilities or experience working in a medical setting is preferred. Demonstrated experience with medical billing systems is preferred.
