Overview

The Akamai Web Performance team seeks an experienced Program Manager to plan, support, and lead complex programs related to product development and infrastructure improvement. In this role you will be working with teams across the company to define priorities for critical initiatives, drive definition and scope, plan resourcing, and provide visibility on progress from inception through delivery and success in market. Other responsibilities will include:

  • Planning, coordinating, and leading cross-functional programs including technical and non-technical teams

  • Handling dependencies between multiple programs and resolving conflicts while working in a matrixed technical environment

  • Seeking to provide clarity and options in ambiguous situations

  • Obtaining agreement from key partners in the other groups at Akamai

  • Ensuring that geographically dispersed teams communicate effectively

  • Analyzing problems, proposing solutions, and implementing improvements in business operations and technical processes

About the Team

The Web Performance team is responsible for building and maintaining products to meet the challenges of connected audiences who expect instant, reliable and secure access to websites and applications – from any device, anywhere at any time. Web Performance Program Managers play a key role in ensuring that our extraordinary products continue to deliver excellent on-line experiences as well as help our product and engineering partners innovate to build new products, partnerships and go-to-market approaches.

Applicants must meet one of the following education and experience requirements:

  • 6 years of relevant experience and a Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or related field or its equivalent or

  • 3 years of relevant experience and a Master’s degree in Computer Science or related field or

  • relevant experience and a PhD in Computer Science or related field

Basic Qualifications

  • 4+ years of experience working with software or systems engineering teams on critical systems

  • 4+ years of experience with technical project or program management.

  • 3+ years of experience managing complex programs across teams and across geographies.

  • 3+ years of experience delivering a minimum of 10 large-scale complex programs (new products, services or solutions)

  • Extraordinary written and verbal communication skills.

  • Collaborative spirit that enjoys working in a fast-paced, dynamic environment.

  • Highly responsible, self-disciplined, creative, and confident professional

  • Familiarity with both waterfall and agile / scrum software development methodologies and tools

  • Led large scale initiatives requiring coordination from > 40 contributors

  • Ability to work under tight deadlines while responding to changing business and technical conditions.

  • Enjoys taking on complex problems with a sense of optimism and determination
