Job Description Primary Role

The Director, Corporate Strategy and Commercial Assessment will be responsible for leading both Corporate Strategy and Commercial Assessment projects, including developing, executing, and ensuring delivery of high quality and timely deliverables in support of corporate priorities as well as company/product acquisitions and licenses. The incumbent will serve as the Commercial Lead on business development due diligence projects and will be responsible for leading primary/secondary market research efforts and global revenue forecasting/modeling, and will play a key role in developing disease area strategies. This role demands a high level of strategic thinking, strong analytical and forecasting skills, and a broad bio-pharmaceutical, commercial background to include expertise across multiple commercial areas such as sales, product marketing, market research, data analytics, competitive intelligence, forecasting, strategic marketing, etc. This role is designed for a candidate with strong leadership and communication skills who is comfortable working in a team environment and capable of clearly articulating key commercial and strategic insights to Shire Senior Management.


40% Plan, design, and implement market research (primary and secondary) and associated forecasting, model development, and analytics to support evaluations of acquisitions/licensing opportunities

30% Lead cross-functional corporate strategy initiatives, including developing a robust fact base, identifying and evaluating potential options, and aligning key stakeholders (typically executive management) on a recommended path forward

30% Work with due diligence and other cross-functional teams as a representative of the corporate strategy and commercial assessment perspective to develop recommendations to senior management on various strategic and business development topics

Education & Experience Requirements

• 5 or more years of experience in pharmaceutical market analytics/forecasting, market research or corporate strategy gained at either a bio-pharmaceutical company or in a mature consultancy/agency

• MBA or other Master’s level degree preferred

• Commercial experience in both U.S. and international markets, some experience with rare disease and/or specialty markets

• Experience forecasting sales for pharmaceutical products

• Expertise with quantitative data sources (e.g. IMS sales data, payer claims data)

• Experience managing third-party market research vendors/engagements
