Kaiser Permanente Communications Consultant I - Quality and Policy in California, California

The Permanente Federation is the national support organization for the more than 21,000 physicians of the Permanente Medical Groups. Together, the eight Permanente Medical Groups care for more than 11 million Kaiser Permanente members across the country in Hawaii, California, Oregon, Washington, Colorado, Georgia, Virginia, Maryland, and the District of Columbia. We serve as the national partner on behalf of the medical groups with Kaiser Foundation Health Plan on a variety of initiatives. We are seeking a Communications Consultant who will provide complex health care and health policy related communications strategies, with an emphasis on developing content for broad internal, external and leadership audiences. The Communications Consultant will work as part of the External Affairs, Communications, and Brand (EACB) team to help execute plans, draft content, and manage tactics and deadlines. The ideal candidate will have strong writing and interviewing skills, a compelling and engaging approach to storytelling, and experience rapidly generating content. Strong project management skills are also required to support the Permanente Federation-s communications and initiatives. Additional work may include event, conference and meeting planning, media pitching and coordination, and creating print and digital assets for websites and social media. With direction from the Director of Communications, the communications consultant will work in close collaboration with various stakeholders at the national and regional level across The Permanente Federation, Kaiser Foundation Health Plan and Hospitals and the Permanente Medical Groups to plan and execute content and strategies that support the organizational brand and reputation and goals of The Permanente Federation and the Permanente Medical Groups. This is a new role to support the evolving Permanente Medicine brand. The position is located in our Oakland, California office.

Essential Responsibilities: - Develop, support and implement health care communications content, plans and tactics to fulfill the strategic and operational goals and objectives of projects or programs to deliver, promote and protect the organization-s brand and reputation. - Handle a full range of project components in an independent and autonomous manner. Organize project tasks, collect information, set timelines for completion of required tasks and see projects through to completion. - Work with the EACB team to identify the people, themes, angles, and stories. - Research and analyze information, and write, edit and produce a variety of articles, publications, reports, presentations, talking points and other content, including video. - Act as point of contact with outside vendors/stakeholders/agencies as needed. - Identify and rapidly develop creative content for web, internal and external audiences, including written and video patient and physician stories and perspectives that differentiate Permanente Medicine in an increasingly crowded market landscape. - Support social media channels to amplify key messages, and deliver digital pushes to support key announcements. Participate in tracking and analytics. - Prepare leadership communications as necessary, including reports for executive leadership and internal communications to staff. - Think creatively about new ways to share information, including the use of social media, collaborative software and other digital channels. Manage content strategy for web, wikis and other digital properties.

Qualifications: Basic Qualifications: Experience - Minimum five (5) years of progressive related experience working on a variety of projects within a large, multi-divisional organization. Education - BA degree in English, Journalism, Communications, Marketing, Health Care Administration or a related field. License, Certification, Registration - N/A.

Additional Requirements: - Excellent written/verbal presentation, listening skills, proofreading and copy editing skills required. - Ability to quickly synthesize complex information into reader friendly content. - Creativity and flexibility; ability to work within complex and sometimes ambiguous environments. - Demonstrated experience in successfully executing brand strategies or in planning, developing and managing effective communication programs. - Superior organizational, planning, coordination, and project management skills, with demonstrated ability to multi-task, balance priorities, and set and manage timelines for deliverables. - Capable of working under tight deadlines, with the flexibility to work on several projects concurrently. - Must possess strong customer service orientation with the ability to recognize, understand and meet the needs and expectations of the all customers within the organization. - Ability to work independently and in collaboration with larger teams and/or stakeholders. - Capable of professional interaction across all levels of personnel, including executive leadership, and technical subject matter experts. - Ability to navigate complex political situations in a professional, tactful and sensitive manner. - Strong analytical, problem solving and critical thinking skills with attention to detail and accuracy.

Preferred Qualifications: - Experience in public relations agency and / or journalism background preferred. - Experience in graphic design and video production a plus. - Masters- degree in Communications, Journalism or Public Policy preferred. - Knowledge and/or experience in the health care industry or background in health policy. - Proficiency in Windows and Microsoft Office applications (Word, PowerPoint, and Excel). Experience in Photoshop, Illustrator preferred.
