HCA, Hospital Corporation of America Registered Nurse (RN) Medical/Surgical-Full Time Mixed in Caldwell, Idaho

Under the direction of the Unit Director the Registered Nurse RN cares for the medical and surgical patients on the Med/Surg Unit. The Registered Nurse RN also performs related assessments, procedures and treatments, evaluations and updates of patient plan of care that assures and maintains high quality care for all assigned patients. The Registered Nurse also:

  1. Performs thorough assessments of the assigned surgical patients. Assessments include obtaining patient history, assessing body systems, outcomes of treatments and procedures performed and the psychosocial needs of the patient. Assessment of patient family needs during death and dying. Performs age-specific nursing assessments, assesses age-specific safety issues (e.g., plans care with frequent breaks for elderly patients, implements appropriate skin care to maintain skin integrity) and appropriately interprets age-specific patient data and responses.
  2. Safely and effectively performs basic level procedures and treatments, maintaining sterile and aseptic technique for assigned patients, including but not limited to: safe effective medication administration, insertion of peripheral intravenous catheters, care and maintenance of the peripheral intravenous catheters, insertion of nasogastric tubes, care and maintenance of the nasogastric tubes, care and maintenance of gastric tubes, insertion of urological catheters, care and maintenance of urological catheters, care of surgical drains, perform surgical/incisional care, perform wound care, perform decubitus care, perform orthopedic traction and cast care. Provide support and care for patient and family during the death and dying experience.
  3. Performs Med/Surg extremity assessments including: Verbailize the purpose of the assessment Demonstration of assessment for patient Documentaton: Patient and/or family education Notify RN of increased pain Change in sensation/motion Change in baseline assessment Meditech specific screens ( Muscoskeletal ) Med-surge assessment Admission assessment Shift assessment Pre-surgical assessment Patient pain, tenderness, changes from baseline. All post-op joint and spine patients will be assessed on admission then per policy

    • Associate degree in nursing required. Bachelors degree preferred.

    • Current Idaho Registered Nurse License in good standing.

    • CPR and ACLS required

    • Ability to manage multiple priorities, effective problem resolution skills, ability to communicate effectively with multiple levels in the organization including patients, families, physicians, supervisors, directors and other department representatives.
