Rainier Residential Habilitation Center (RHC) is recruiting for a permanent* and full-time Recreation & Athletics Specialist 3 supporting Program Area Team *(PAT) A. Planned work hours are 40 hours a week, schedule varies due to activities planned for the week, Monday through Friday, with Saturday and Sunday as regularly scheduled days off.
Within a 24-hour, 7-days a week intermediate care facility for adults with intellectual disabilities. You will be responsible for ensuring development, scheduling and implementation of recreational/leisure and day programs and activities for both small groups and individual clients at Rainier RHC. These activities will be coordinated with Attendant Managers and other Interdisciplinary team members. Activities will include on and off campus options and will be comprised of age appropriate selections that have rationale to Individual Habilitation Plan (IHP) information (functioning Level, interests, skills etc.).
Rainier RHC is a habilitation center for individuals with intellectual disabilities located within the city limits of Buckley, Washington about a mile-and-a-half from downtown. The campus is situated in a peaceful country setting with a unique and prominent view of Mount Rainier.
Rainier RHC's population is approximately 340 adults with a wide variety of abilities and needs. 24-hour residential care and specialized care or teaching is provided in the areas of work or vocational training, leisure activities, social relationships, and everyday life tasks. Coordinate and oversee implementation of recreational/leisure and day programs utilizing both on and off campus (community resources. This may require the work schedule to fluctuate depending on the specific activity/event.
Ensure that the individualization and choices of the clients are preserved as part of deciding preferred activities.
Coordinate closely with Attendant Counselor Managers and respective Interdisciplinary Team's when developing opportunities, establishing schedules and implementing various activities that may involve driving on both preplanned and spontaneous community trips. This will involve transferring clients in and out of vehicles as needed.
Work directly with clients who may present with behavioral, medical and other challenges when accommodating individual recreational/leisure and day programs.
Prepares oral and written progress and adjustment reports; maintains records.
Initiates requisition and distributes recreation materials and equipment for part of recreation program.
May supervise other Recreation staff or volunteers assigned to recreation program Contacts community resources in planning for special events.
Required Education and Experience:
- Bachelor degree involving major study in either (a) Recreation or Therapeutic Recreation, (b) Music, Drama, or Physical Education, or (c) Psychology, Sociology, or Education with a minor in Recreation, Physical Education, Music, Drama and at least Two (2) years of paid, professional recreation experience.
- At least One (1) year of experience as a Recreation and Athletics Specialist 2 (within WA state government employment).
NOTE:This position requires a Bachelor degree involving major study in either (a) Recreation or Therapeutic Recreation, (b) Music, Drama, or Physical Education, or (c) Psychology, Sociology, or Education with a minor in Recreation, Physical Education, Music, Drama from an accredited institution whose accreditation is recognized by the U.S. Department of Education or the Council for Higher Education Accreditation (CHEA), or a foreign equivalent."
NOTE: Recreational therapy includes providing individuals assessments and treatment which are goal-oriented and directed towards rehabilitation and modification of specific physical, emotional, mental, or social behaviors.
