Job Description:

Position Overview

The Field Operations Manager works in an interdisciplinary project team in the automotive industry and will be responsible for the entire onshore team (Assembly, SW & Robot and commissioning engineers as potential team members). May work in with similar technologies with other industries.

Tasks include temporary project-relevant leadership of internal and external team members and the role as the Project Manager's chief functional support person during the course of projects.

This position takes care for the realization of customer specifications and will be monitoring compliance with these standards during implementation. For the purpose of domestic and overseas customer projects it is incumbent on the candidate to lead the onshore team on technical topics.

The Field Operations Manager also bears a shared responsibility for compliance with relevant project budget targets.


  • Project Planning & Controlling, task completion and documentation

  • Responsible for the relevant onshore tasks together with their implementation (commissioning) for international projects with focus on the automotive industry.

  • Manage the proper realization of customer specifications within the project in course of commissioning actions.

  • Coordination of manpower resources in the project in alignment with the project management policy and procedure methodology named PM@Siemens

  • Temporary technical and disciplinary team leadership

  • Shared responsibility for the project budget

  • Observes and coordinates the compliance with PM@Siemens policy and procedure methods/tools for project management

  • Customer Management which involves the customer in decision-making processes and keeps the project manager regularly informed about the project progress

  • Develops additional business opportunities out of the current project for new Proposal/Contracts.

The candidate would be responsible for the technical performance description of offers in consultation with the technical offer project manager .Will be actively involved in the quotation phase, analyzes customer specifications, checks the technical feasibility and their possible conversion into an offer

Risk & Opportunity Management where the candidate identifies and evaluates all possibilities to improve the results of the current project. This includes proactive participation in identification processes of possibilities to improve the business opportunities together with the avoidance of risks in the project execution

Claim Management in support of the project manager for indentifying claims and their management by preparation and documentation of change requests

Knowledge Management where the candidate develops and uses active sources of information in order to apply them in a project-based and entrepreneurial way. Proactively gathers information, knowledge and experience and stores it for cross team sharing. Takes the chance to benefit from others and exchange experiences through lesson learned sharing. Participation in the generation of expert networks in order to achieve a high reusability of gained project knowhow.

Required Knowledge Skills, Education and Experience

Experience with Automotive customers/suppliers of 5-8 years in planning, organizing, delivering and completing responsibilities as listed above.

Working knowledge of Project Management Processes. PMP/PMI Certification a plus. Working knowledge of Project management tools (schedule, progress evaluation, manpower planning, etc.) is required.

Management skills including Team Development, Motivation for multi-disciplined/multi-cultural teams 5-8 years

Installation, Commissioning experience of knowledge of Body shops, Conveyors, Storage and Retrieval systems (including :Technologies, Processes, Procedures, Regulation) with automobile producer or supplier.

Industrial safety regulations: knowledge of area-specific industrial safety and regulations with respect to the project-specific implementation

Area-specific: knowledge and nexus: i.a. environment, Strategy, Goals, Processes, Guidelines, Decision-makers, Platforms, IT Systems und Tools

Industry- / customer-related knowledge: Knows the market and the customer's competitor together with his strategies, business processes and decision makers

Knowledge in the field of project business of established procedures for controling of financial project aspects (e.g. project calculations & - review and monitoring)

MS-Offiice Applications: Excel, Word, MS-Project, Powerpoint

Product knowledge of Siemens hardware and software.

Implementation-Knowhow (Basic/Detail-Engineering). Eplan or CAD software experience is a plus.

Language skillls: English

Preferred Education

BS/BA in related discipline, or advanced degree, where required, or equivalent combination of education and experience. Certification may be required in some areas

Must be eligible to work in the U.S. without the current or future need of sponsorship.
