Job Details:JOB SUMMARY:Each Billing Specialist has defined responsibilities but is expected to maintain a broad knowledge base of all billing procedures and be able to perform any assigned task with complete confidence. The Billing Specialist is proficient with reconciling daily charge batches and the payments associated with those charges, as well as interpreting, posting and reconciling payments from either manual or electronic Explanations of Benefits (ERA). The Specialist will identify and research incomplete or inaccurate information and follow up outstanding claims in a timely manner. The Specialist will maintain strong working relationships with the CPC, the Billing Manager and Practice Staff in order to identify and address any issues which will impact the processing of charges and/or maximize collections. The Specialist performs a variety of duties requiring some independent judgment and knowledge of office procedures, assigning proper ICD-9 and CPT codes, applying applicable modifiers and interpreting insurance information to assure a clean claim and expedient payments. Education & Training: Associates degree preferred although will consider extensive billing experience as substitute; medical terminology and coding / billing coursework.American Academy of Professional Coders Certification, CPC preferred. Work Orientation & Experience: Five years experience in a medical billing environment, knowledge of insurance and coding preferred, working knowledge of PC systems and related software applications is required, preferably GE Centricity experience.
