Title: Advanced Technical Writer
Location: United States-Indiana-Batesville
Provides documentation contribution within an area of expertise as a member of a multi-disciplinary team in the Research and Development division. Develops, writes, and edits material for the operating system, system updates, system memos, technical papers, manuals, instruction sheets, and related technical and administrative publications in print and/or electronic media. Technical Writer Senior will attend key meetings related to the development of the product. Will coach and guide Technical Writers to ensure documentation and process compliance. Managing time sensitive projects ensuring adherence to prescribed technical documentation processes and budget adherence.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Writes and edits technical documents in compliance with quality system and regulatory requirements.
Researches existing procedures and interviews Subject Matter Experts (SMEs) to acquire source data and determine documentation requirements.
Translates engineering data into procedures and instructions suitable for use by the intended users.
Determines illustration needs. Works with graphic illustrators for graphics.
Publishes final document in a desktop publishing environment.
Supports and participates in documentation validation.
Maintains open communication with subject matter experts (SMEs) Service, Marketing, Training, Engineering, and Sustaining Engineering. Provides these teams with feedback and support on technical issues.
Creates and manipulates electronic files for archiving, on-line documentation publishing, and printing. Performs the duties of a Publication Specialist as needed.
Develops, recommends, implements, and adheres to technical documentation standards, communications, including templates and style guides.
Coordinates the printing, electronic publications, and distribution of technical documentation.
Disseminates documents for technical review and serves as collection point for feedback.
Serves on project teams as assigned.
Verify information in JDE and Agile.
Proven ability to manage multiple projects.
Demonstrated ability to leverage external suppliers in combination with internal resources to yield improved outcomes.
Proven ability to manage cross functional projects.
Strong interpersonal skills with ability to promote team interaction and execution to stream line processes and to look at new technologies.
Responsible to help meet time to market objectives, and meeting product and project cost targets by monitoring translation spend.
Builds consensus with partners by considering input and promoting trust between various functional areas.
Determines the appropriate individuals needed for a decision making process.
Synthesizes complex information gathered from a variety of sources and disseminates to others.
Challenges project teams and established work processes and proactively finds creative methods to reach desired performance levels.
Translation database administrator.
Communication with translation vendor – Project Manager.
Monthly metrics tracking and communication.
Budget tracking / spend (PCard, translations, office supplies)
Processing of all translations into Agile and JD Edwards.
Oversight of outside global contract resources for translations.
Education, Experience and Qualifications:
Four (4) to eight (8) years’ experience in technical writing / publishing or equivalent experience.
Five (5) years’ experience utilizing a structured phase gate product development process.
Technical aptitude. Ability to read and interpret engineering source data to include specifications, drawings, and parts lists.
Demonstrated project management skills including scheduling, analysis and project finances.
Desktop publishing experience. Experience in JDE, Agile, Excel, PowerPoint, MicroSoft Word, MicroSoft Project, Adobe Products and Framemaker.
Familiar with electronic publishing solutions and methods.
