HCA, Hospital Corporation of America Registrar II, Oncology - PRN - 10 hours per week in Austin, Texas


Maintains components of Cancer Registry in accordance with American College of Surgeons (ACOS) requirements for approved cancer programs and Texas Cancer Registry reporting requirements. Interacts with medical staff, staff of physicians' offices and other health care providers, and staff of various hospital departments in order to maintain program components. Shares her time between North Austin Medical Center and St. David's Medical Center.


    • Abstracts patient records in accordance with ACOS, Texas Cancer Registry and hospital Cancer Committee requirements.

    • Is knowledgeable of all ACOS and Texas Cancer Registry requirements and keeps current on changes in program and reporting requirements.

    • Abstracts records within six months of discharge 100% of the time. Abstracts records with 95% accuracy. Is capable of abstracting one record in 40 minutes (average).

    • Communicates with physicians or their office staff either by letter, phone or review of physician office records (by arrangement) in order to obtain complete case information.

    • Identifies all reportable cases to be abstracted.

    • Performs data collection for patient care evaluation studies.

    • Works with registry manager and physicians in performing quality assurance of registry data. Coordinates Tumor Conferences.

    • Coordinates Cancer Committee meetings.

    • Performs follow-up functions as necessary to complement work of PRN follow-up staff.


    Interacts a great deal with the Medical Staff as well as other hospital departments; handles confidential information; makes difficult decisions; utilizes computer equipment; keeps current on legal requirements; keeps current on ACOS and Texas Cancer Registry requirements. Strong personal computer skills with two years experience using personal computers. Must be able to communicate effectively and professionally in writing, in person and over the telephone.


    *Required: *Two or more years of college; Two years cancer registry experience;

    Course work in and/or two years experience using medical terminology, anatomy,

    physiology, disease processes and treatment methods.

    Preferred: Associate degree
