HCA, Hospital Corporation of America Medical Technician - Part Time in Austin, Texas
Responsible for competently performing moderate and high complexity testing. Analyzes, reviews and reports test results and quality control results and
takes remedial action when indicated. Ensures specimen integrity by adhering to the laboratory's procedures for specimen handling and processing.
Adheres to departmental policies and procedures to include departmental programs, quality control, performance improvement and safety.
POSITION QUALIFICATIONS (REQUIRED/PREFERRED):
EDUCATION (REQUIRED) :
Bachelor’s degree in Medical Technology or a related field from an accredited university or college; computer skills; Graduation from a clinical rotation or internship in an accredited medical technology program or a 50-week military training course or an acceptable equivalent which results in eligibility to take the registry exam in Medical Technology (Clinical Laboratory Science). Alternate degree hours or programs must have certification in ASCP, NCA, or AMT
EXPERIENCE (PREFERRED) : Two year experience as generalist, including Blood Bank, in acute care hospital setting preferred.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES: Respects and maintains the confidentiality of information relative to the laboratory. Adheres to laboratory safety policies and regulations. Works with minimal direction; consults with other technical staff, Director or Pathologist(s) as needed. Functions as a liaison between the laboratory and the laboratory customers. Provides care for neonatal, pediatric, adolescent, adult and geriatric patients. Operates general laboratory equipment, including but not limited to: telephones, computer keyboards and CRT, automated analyzers, centrifuges, microscopes, manuals and automated pipettes.

Must be able to demonstrate understanding of HCA’s and St. David’s “Patients First” safety initiative by strict compliance to all safety protocols and procedures.
Recognizes that variables such as age, race, nationality, culture, disease-causing vulnerabilities, socioeconomic factors affect the patient populations under their care. Uses interventions appropriate to these factors (e.g., interpreter, dietary preferences, social service consult, etc.)
Ability to read and write in English. Ability to read and analyze technical reports. Ability to write accurate and concise clinical documents. Ability to collect data for further analysis. Ability to communicate effectively at all levels with the laboratory and with laboratory customers.
/Registration as a Medical Technologist by ASCP, NCA, AMT or proof of eligibility required. Evidence of a passing registry exam score must be presented within one year of hire or three successive offerings of the registry exam to remain employed as a medical technologist (must lead to passing)./
