HCA, Hospital Corporation of America Exercise Physiologist (Cardiovascular Imaging Centers) PRN in Austin, Texas

Position Summary:

Provide timely flow of office patients in the Imaging department. Assist in the delivery of patient care under the direction of physicians to include EKGs, vital signs, prepare patients for stress tests, IV skills, and nuclear stress tests and stress echos. In addition, the exercise physiologist must ensure all Emergency equipment (defib) is checked daily and weekly crash cart checks.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

Must be able to demonstrate understanding of HCA's and St. David's "Patient First" safety initiative by strict compliance to all safety protocols and procedures. (Equipment, decision making, contact, confidential information handled, etc.) Must be knowledgeable of the principles, practices, and techniques of nuclear medicine procedures. Must have sufficient knowledge of anatomy and physiology to pinpoint areas for nuclear studies. Maintain high- quality standards for all Imaging services. Knowledge of safety requirements to provide instructions and to recognize and correct hazardous conditions. Must be able to anticipate and react calmly to emergency situations.

The exercise physiologist may act as a liaison for the CPR program and patient/spouse-family, doctor, medical staff. Must have appropriate skill in developing and maintaining department quality assurance. Properly process all paperwork, encounter forms, Meditech, and consent forms. The exercise physiologist will be working with middle to older adults. Should be able to establish and maintain effective working relationships with employees, medical staff, patients, and public.The exercise physiologist will be required to use/operate the following pieces of equipment:

  • Protective equipment

  • Blood pressure equipment

  • Infection control equipment and supplies

  • Cardiac monitoring/telemetry equipment

  • Pump

  • Oxygen tank and supplies

  • Telephone system

  • Assistive ambulatory devices

  • Stress testing equipment

  • Exercise equipment

  • Computers



Minimum education BS in Kinesiology, Exercise Physiology, or Exercise Science related degree. Must have know ledge of EKG interpretation. BLS required. Must maintain a Public Safety Driver's License and have a good driving record.

Preferred: ACLS is a plus but not required


Required: Completion of an internship in Exercise physiologist that includes rotation in Nuclear Cardiology department.

Preferred: Two years' experience in a medical or Cardiologist office



Current basic life support (BLS) certification required. Advanced cardiac life support (ACLS) completion

not required. Applicants should be willing to apply for and attain ACSM Exercise Specialist certification.
