HCA, Hospital Corporation of America Cardiovascular Service Line Executive in Austin, Texas

POSITION SUMMARY Responsible for setting the strategic direction for cardiovascular services across the Central West Texas Division to grow market share in the service line. Leverage system scale and capability to achieve success. Develop and implement business plans to support the continued growth and success of the division. Execute alignment initiatives with affiliated physician practices. Ensure the financial viability of cardiovascular initiatives. Establish collaborative relationships with various departments and managers within the hospitals. Evaluate options for research where appropriate. Design, plan, and implement programs that promote the mission to improve the health of the communities served.

Leadership and Governance

  • Develop financially viable business and organizational models that balance and align the interests of the hospital and those of the division, thereby achieving maximum flexibility for program development.

  • Interface with the hospital’s executive team to provide effective management direction for cardiovascular services.

Operations and Finance

  • Develop, monitor, and report operational and capital budgets. Coordinate with operational departments to ensure corresponding availability of service capacity to accommodate growth.

  • Facilitate the development of plans to reduce cost and improve efficiency within the hospitals related to cardiology and cardiovascular surgery, which would be reflected in the various hospital efficiency plans and programs.

  • Establish plans to optimize reimbursement for services provided.

  • Monitor and drive operations to achieve clinical excellence in the service line.

  • Work with HCAPS leadership to ensure success of affiliated and/or employed physician groups at the practice level to develop service line efforts on the “ground floor.”

Strategic Planning and Business Development

  • Formulate and gain approval for strategic business plans and objectives consistent with hospital’s mission, goals, and strategies designed to support the community and ensure their mutual success.

  • Ensure the strategic planning and operational budgeting processes are linked and support the hospital’s plans.

  • Successfully link the service line with Central West Texas Division outreach initiatives.

  • Develop new and enhance existing inpatient and outpatient clinical programs and services to achieve growth opportunities commensurate with availability capacity.

  • Facilitate contractual relationships between related organizations and Central West Texas Division hospitals.

  • Establish marketing programs that enhance the awareness and preference for programs and services among key internal and external customer constituencies.

Research and Education

  • Guide the development of research initiatives, including but not limited to affiliations with SCRI.

  • Integrate and align research programs with the clinical operation.

Physician Relations

  • Develop and execute physician and staff recruitment plans to ensure adequate coverage at all facilities.

  • Build long-term relationships with key physicians, affiliated, integrated and/or employed.


  • Ensure compliance with IRS, OIG, and CMS laws and regulations particularly as they apply to hospital-physician financial relationships and business structures.

  • Establish collaborative relationships with key managers and departments in the Central West Texas Division.

  • Develop programs to deliver medical services and interact with providers and consumers worldwide through affiliation arrangements, advanced communication and information technology development and, if appropriate, facility construction.

  • Develop well-defined and comprehensive business plans that outline short and long-term growth objectives and detail strategic and tactical initiatives.

  • Establish benchmark metrics focusing on volume, market share, quality, and profitable financial performance.

  • Assist physicians in their efforts to publish articles in appropriate medical journals.

  • Assist each facility with accreditation and certification efforts related to the service line.

  • Assist each facility with the development of evidence based clinical protocols and order sets where appropriate.

  • Practice and adhere to the “Code of Conduct” philosophy and “Mission and Value Statement.”

Education*: *

  • Bachelor’s Degree in healthcare related field required.

  • Master’s Degree in healthcare related or business field preferred or in progress.

  • Current clinical licensure. I.e. RN, PT, OT Preferred.

  • Specialization in cardiovascular services strongly preferred.

  • Minimum of five years clinical experience preferred.

  • Five years experience in program development and/or administrative healthcare experience required.

    Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Current working knowledge of the cardiovascular field.

  • Possess strong interpersonal skills and flexibility in working with administrators, physicians, and multidisciplinary teams to develop and improve disease-specific programs.

  • Promote the safety, health, and quality of life for patients as a first priority at all times and guide the creation and growth of cardiovascular programs.

  • Proficient in Microsoft Office applications, Internet searches, and relevant data bases.

  • Ability to work independently and under pressure to follow through on issues.

  • Ability to communicate clearly and concisely, both verbally and in writing.

  • Ability to establish and maintain long-term customer relationships, building trust and respect by consistently meeting and exceeding expectations.

  • Ability to work effectively with other employees and external parties.
