HCA, Hospital Corporation of America Registered Nurse (RN) Educator- Medical/Surgical in Anchorage, Alaska

The RN Educator functions in a specialized area of nursing in the role of consultant, educator, practitioner, and possibly researcher. The goal is also to provide educational mechanisms to help the nursing staff deliver the highest quality of patient care from the Neonate to the Elderly. The RN Educator will coordinate, develop, provide, and evaluate ongoing professional education opportunities by working in conjunction with the Continuing Ed Committee, specialized unit educators, the RN Residency Manager, the Nursing Management team, and the Quality Management team. The RN Educator will assure that the educational opportunities fulfill the needs of staff and requirements of regulators by previewing and developing courses with the Director.

The Med- Surg RN Educator is responsible for the Education and Competencies for Med-Oncology and 5N Med-Surg units, may also work with other units or in conjunction with Critical Care and Peri- Op educators for optimal education and learning opportunities. This educator primarily works directly on the units orienting and following each staff to ensure the highest level of competency; also monitors documentation for accuracy; validates skills; performs Mock codes and BLS skills; evaluates and tracks staff training and competencies in HealthStream ; and develops education and training as appropriate for the specific unit; routinely researches new courses and training programs and collaborates with the Unit director, to prioritize and identify current and future needs, particularly the specialty components of Medical-Surgical and Oncology nursing and acts as a clinical Med-Surg Resource for staff. The Med-Surg educator with be an integral part of the Med-Surg Initiative as well as a resource for staff to complete certifications to include but not limited to Biotherapy Administration, Oncology Nurse, Certified Medical Surgical RN (CMSRN), and Palliative Care. Functions as a teacher/practitioner in applying specific, relevant theories and in-depth knowledge of nursing to the care of patients; synthesizes concepts/research methods into the practice of nursing; processes refined technical skills with well-developed problem solving abilities; demonstrates a commitment to innovation in nursing practice and continuing professional development. Demonstrates and promotes service excellence at all times.
